The Origins of Reiki
Reiki is an unconventional Japanese healing method which, like traditional Chinese medicine, is very widespread in the Orient. Its founder is Mikao Usui (1865 – 1922). These practices are based on the belief that health is linked to the notion of “Chi”. This is the same thing that circulates in the acupuncture meridians, already better known in Western medicine. During the Reiki session, the hands are placed on different parts of the body above it. The Practitioner adjusts his movements by letting himself be guided by feeling. This treatment provides cleansing of the subtle centers and can be suitable for everyone.
Theoretical explanations
Just like blood circulation, the free flow of this subtle energy ensures a good balance and proper functioning of the organs as well as the entire body/mind system. Vital energy can be compared to a river and its tributaries which, in case of obstructions, would take detours. Although these flows are invisible to the naked eye, their disturbances can have consequences. Energy imbalances can have external origins, such as climate, poor diet, or trauma, but also internal origins, related to emotions, fatigue, or stress. These disorders can lead to blockages, pain, or various ailments. The practitioner acts as a channel between this subtle energy and the patient in order to harmonize the flow of vital currents. Their intervention can help relieve certain tensions and, in some cases, contribute to the person's recovery. The transmitted energy comes from a universal source which, according to each individual's needs, nourishes the areas of the body in demand. The patient has nothing to do except relax and remain lying down, while the practitioner moves around them, often with their hands placed above the body.
