Tai Chi Chuan Yang style 108

The Yang-style Tai Chi Chuan 108-movement form is structured into three distinct parts : Earth, Man, and Sky, each representing a progressive stage in learning and mastering the sequences.

The first part, "Earth", is studied first and focuses on establishing the fundamental principles of movement and posture, emphasizing grounding and stability. Rotations are limited to 135°, allowing for a gradual assimilation of the core techniques.
The second part, "Man", lies between Earth and Sky, symbolizing the practitioner's evolution. It introduces two series of kicks along with more advanced rotations of up to 180°. This stage marks a transition toward greater fluidity and improved coordination of movements.
The third and final part, "Sky", is the longest, comprising around fifty movements. While it introduces relatively few new postures, they are particularly demanding and require a high level of mastery. Rotations become more intense, reaching up to 270°, demanding flexibility, balance, and precision.

This gradual progression allows practitioners to develop grounding, mobility, and a deeper connection with the internal energy of Tai Chi.

8 Brocade pieces Qi Gong

The 8 Pieces of Brocade, or Ba Duan Jin, is a series of eight movements designed to loosen and revitalize the entire body. These exercises provide a deep stretch of the acupuncture meridians, promoting better circulation of Qi and blood.
Through these movements, the tendons become more flexible, as supple as silk. Regular practice also helps tone the heart, strengthen the lungs, and stimulate the digestive system.
Ba Duan Jin belongs to the category of external Qi Gong (Wei Dan), a practice focused on strengthening the body. It acts as a protective “shield,” helping to guard against external aggressions and maintain overall vitality.

Differences between Tai Chi & Qi Gong

Tai Chi and Qi Gong share the same goal : to calm and strengthen the body through breathwork and postures. These practices promote grounding while enhancing fluidity of movement, as well as improving blood circulation and energy flow.
Their benefits are numerous and varied. They help strengthen the immune system, improve muscle tone, and increase tendon flexibility. As integral parts of Traditional Chinese Medicine, these practices also contribute to overall relaxation and well-being. On a mental level, they play a key role in stress management and support emotional balance.
Regular practice of Tai Chi or Qi Gong enhances coordination, concentration, and balance while promoting deep relaxation. These disciplines help maintain mobility and vitality at any age.
